Karate has become one of the most famous martial arts with people taking part around the world. Its attraction could very well be based on the fact it contains all that is good about martial arts. In Karate, it will be possible to engage in competitions all over the world or you can learn it to help you get healthy in both mind and body or you can use the skills to help you protect yourself and your family. Karate which is Japanese for empty hand combines kicks, blows and strikes in an all-round system that can be mastered by men, women and children. As a matter of fact, you can easily get your whole family involved with Karate. If you're curious about what would be involved in the average Karate class, this article will give you a basic introduction.

You will find that there are different kinds of Karate with different focus on either power or speed. Most Karate lessons begin with warm ups that include stretches and exercises. These warm ups help build our flexibility so that we can do our kicks and moves without injuring ourselves. To able to execute any of the techniques you learn Karate, you should be in great physical condition so the warm ups are important. You'll find that after taking just a few Karate class sessions, you'll be feeling stronger and more focused than ever before.

When your warm up is complete, you will then begin working on specific Karate techniques. Every single movement, every stance and every feet placement is essential to your success in Karate so you will be doing a lot of repetitions of a specific move until it is done properly. Of course, the teacher will demonstrate the move to you then you do it yourself. The idea behind repetition is that the moves end up being second nature and you begin to channel the power into certain strikes by the way in which you move your hips and body as one.

Yet another aspect of Karate is what is referred to as "kata" which is essentially executing a sequence of different moves in a combination of strikes, kicks and blocks. You will notice "kata" at any Karate event and you will learn how to do this as you progressively move up the grading system. At some point during your lesson you'll also have a chance for some sparring with individuals of a similar experience to you. It's to help you get some real experience with an individual and help you figure out where you stand in your learnings. Even though sparring may seem dangerous, it is actually a light exercise to help you check if you are properly positioned and angled when you do a variety of moves and strikes.

As you get to the end of training, you will be winding down by doing several different stretches. It is fair to say that each club will have their own way of doing things but in most cases this gives you an idea of what to expect if you enroll in a Karate club.
